Asian Youth Games (AYG)

Olympic Themed ISH Logo

The Indoor Sports Hall (ISH) would served as an avenue for students to participate more actively in sports. Be it rain or shine, it is an additional space for the students to partake in more physical activities. Its beautifully designed hall consists of 4 badminton courts and 1 volleyball court at the 3 rd floor with 1 netball court on the 2 nd floor.

This logo for the ISH has been thought of using the Olympic theme of “Citius, Altius, Fortius” – Swifter, Higher, Stronger. The 5 colours represent the different races, language and backgrounds of all our students. The rings gets bigger signifying that no matter what size they are when they begin, they will grow bigger, signifying stronger, and eventually emerge as stars, as shown at the top right hand corner of the logo.

The multicolour logo also serves to indicate the variety of the sports events that are to be held in the school, especially in our new ISH.

AYG Opening Ceremony

Asian Youth Games (AYG) Opening Ceremony was held on 29 June 2009 . Singapore is the country hosting this event and many of our students have never been to the opening ceremony before.

This year, schools are given the opportunity to attend the preview held on the 26 June and be part of the event. The seats were snapped up in no time and thanks to the fast hands of our teachers, we managed to grab 40 seats for our students.

On the day itself, students came to school in full school attire and a bus was catered to send the kids to the Singapore Indoor Sports Hall. When we reached, we had to line up to have our temperature taken and then finally we were admitted into the Hall. We saw performers everywhere and were awed by dazzling attires.

When the show starts, everyone was very impressed at the zest and beauty eluded by the performers, so much so that everyone is so looking forward to Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

We can't wait for YOG to come!!!

Asian Youth Games Athletes' Village Visit

In July 2009, the first inaugural Asian Youth Games was hosted in Singapore whereby approximately 45 National Olympic Councils (NOCs) send about 1,300 top juniors to compete in the 9 sports offered, namely Athletics, Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), FIBA 33 (Basketball), Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Football, Sailing, Shooting, Table Tennis.

In the first week of Term 3, selected 20 Secondary One and Two students were brought to visit the AYG Athletes' Village at Swissotel The Stamford Hotel. They toured the Games Exhibition put up by students from other schools whereby they get to learn more about the sporting cultures of other Asian countries as well as to gain better knowledge of certain sports and games not provided through our school. They were also given the opportunity to mix with the athletes and officials from other countries who were staying in the Athletes' Village, hence gaining insights to the lifestyles of high performance athletes during competition.
